Welcome to my website:
I would like to explain and communicate a few items to help all parents and guardians concerning my science classes. This will help your child when in my
science classroom to be successful and have positive experiences.

1.   I have 2 teacher websites (sciencewithmyrt and healthstudieswithmrmyrtue) used as a major tool and information for my science and health classes.

A key tool is called "Google - Classroom" and it sends my class emails from
me.   ** I highly encourage both students and parents to read them daily.

2.  My teacher website provide a vast array of information and areas of concern for
all my students to use daily.  (I encourage parents/ guardians to use as well)

3.  The two most important areas of my website are:
(  weekly schedule and  topic lessons )

    a.  science/health schedule= daily and weekly reminders of assignments/tests

( within the news will be an outline of each week s schedule )
    b.  topic lessons = a supplement to the text book and has key lessons we
observe in class. ( important to read daily outside of class )
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4.  Google Classroom--------this is a very important tool I use as a teacher:
This is perhaps the "best aid" and reminder location for all students
      and parents to use daily
----- really can make science organized if used.

   a.  What is it? ------
all students will sign into classroom and then for the
entire school year receive from me class emails daily, or at least a few emails
each week, AND STUDENTS VIEW THIS ON THEIR SCHOOL ACCOUNT.

   b.  All classroom emails are sent to the entire class as a reminder of certain
announcements for students to read and help in staying organized.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

5.  Three other methods of communications I use for my students:

     a.   Written information on my white board in front of room.   I also have a
calender that is visible for students to look at to see "when next test is".
     b. Handouts--many assignments will have papers passed out with instructions.
     c. Oral reminders------I will daily use verbal reminders and instructions for all
my students to hear and hopefully understand.

6.  Before and After School-------I will always try to be available to help and visit
with any student that wishes to do so before or after school days!!!

***private conversations during class time will be difficult to do usually***

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

*****What does a parent/ guardian do when you have questions for me?

1.  I would first suggest for
your child to communicate with me on any questions.   ( much better than a parent first talking to the teacher )

One of the best ways for the "growth of a child" is to have them take on as much
responsibility as possible.  (Have your child ask me to visit and talk with them)

2.  Ask your child to show you any google classroom emails sent to them recently
that might relate to perhaps the questions you have of me. Perhaps they should
have a handout that explains the project they had been doing. ( ask them)

3.
Emails to me or a phone call ?  Whatever you feel is best for you, but a short
question by email might be a quick way for both of us to communicate.

4.  What about my grading system?  What about tests?  Homework? Scores?

All I do is a point system----15 points from a test is of same value as
15 points in a homework assignment.
What I tell my students is that (I am
a banker.  When they do work in class for assignments and testings, its a
form of a job where they make money from points they earn.  The teacher s
grades are in the computer as ( their bank of points ).

     A.  I then of course use the school's grading system for A, B, C, D,F .
     B.  My point system varies from short assignment or quiz of 10-20
points , to as high as a test of 75 points or even projects worth
         as high as 100 points.
     C.  In a short 9 week span the point total might reach 500 points.
90 % of that would be 450 pts. for an A type grading rank
70 % of that would be 350 pts. for a C type grade example.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

I hope that helped explain a few things. Its now been over 35 years of teaching
and coaching for me.  I m still learning and enjoying teaching as much as ever!
Thank you so much for your time.
