/ Sept 30 - October 6th------   Moon Foldables

1.   Create a foldable about Moon Topics
2.  Use your textbook pages 622-635
3.  Use online resources as well
4.  Have 5 - 6 topics/ pages and list information
5.  You may add drawing or pictures
*****Ask for any help

6.   This is due on Wed.  Oct. 7th./ no later that Thursday, Oct. 8th.

  Outer Space Math problems

1.  Jet can go 6 times the speed of
sound: How fast is that?

So----- speed of sound = 761 mph

*** 761 x 6 = 4566 mph

2.  Mach one = speed of sound (761)
So--- what is Mach 3 ?

761 x 3 = 2283 mph.= answer

3.   Warp one = speed of light/ L.Y.

*** speed of light = 186,000 mp/sec

so--- SHIP THAT CAN GO WARP 4 = ?

186,000 X 4 = 744,000 miles/per/second

4.  Sun = 93,000,000 miles away----- so
if your jet can go speed of Mach 3----
***how long a trip is that to the Sun?

93,000,000 /  mach 3 speed = answer

*** mach 3 = 2283 mph = 40,735.9 hrs.

5.  Milky Way-------- 100,000 LYs across

*** your speed = mach 3 or 2283 mph

But first go back to speed of light and that

is  186, 000 miles per second.  You will

take 100,000 years to travel that at speed

 of light.

So do this ----- 100,000 x 186,000 = ?

Let s take a break,  it has so many steps.

Sorry to tell you this--- but I also

asked you to figure out if your space ship

could go even faster at the speed of

Warp

And warp speed = 186,000 mp/ Sec.

Check-off list and grading of Part 3 project about Climate, weather and biomes:

Class: period one (national parks)
1. State what state the park is in and show a map image
2.  Have 5 pictures of the park and label each picture (if its an animal as an example, the name of the animal)
3. List the kind of biome and climate it is (example; the Everglades = marine and sub-tropical)
4.  Describe the kind of common weather the park has or give examples of some weather patterns in is seasons (ask for help)
***easy thing to do is see what its weather is like this week.
5. What year did this place become a famous park and what is it most famous for (example = Yellowstone has "Old Faithful".
6. ***do anything else extra that you think helps show what your park is about, be sure to do all the 5 steps above.
7.  USE MAPQUEST AND FIND OUT HOW MANY MILES IT IS FROM IOWA-----ALSO HOW MANY HOURS DRIVE WILL TAKE

Class : Period Two  ( Islands and coastline of World)
1. Have at least 5 pictures of your island and its surroundings
2.  Explain the location of the island (what ocean or sea)--have an image of a map showing the island (ask for help)
3.  Describe the weather of the island and what kind of climate it has yearly. Give examples of temperatures and precipation

*** look up the current weather condition of this island and summarize what is happening there.

4. ***Your island would have some history of a famous storm. This is a very important part of this project:
a. have 2-3 pictures of this storm and explain the picture
b. Summarize when this storm happened, and what year
5. Do anything else you wish to add information of your island
**be sure to do all these steps above
6.  LIST  the latitude/ longitude of your island ( example = 127 degrees West, by 10 degrees North).....ask for help please
**for extra-credit use Travelosity.com to see how much it would cost to fly or take a cruise to this vacation island

Class : period # 3   ( Continental biomes of World)
1.  Have at least 5 pictures and label them of your location
2. Indicate what country and location of this site.  Be sure to have an image / map of where this place is ( Mt Everest)
3. ***this is very important ----label and summarize what kind of biome or geographic topic you are doing research on
4.  Have additional pictures or features that show stories or famous events of your place ( ask for help)
5. Do anything else to add  to your power-point.  I will speak to you and give you some ideas of your individual topic
Final Project for studies of Weather and Climate:

1  Each class has a particular theme for project:
***period one = national parks of the USA
period two = islands of the World or coastline areas
period three = continental biome areas; such as deserts, mountains, grasslands, tundra , ... .

2.  Each student is to get into your Kuno and search for a location to pick from and then inform Mr. Myrtue which location you want to do research on.

**examples = Yellowstone National Park
                       = the island of Madagascar
                       = the Sahara Desert
3.  After the topic is picked ( this is an individual project), all students need to find information of area
4.  This is the basic "check-off" of things to do:
----find 5 pictures of this location and give a short summary about each picture below the picture in your power point
-----describe the Weather for this region for one entire year, give some basic examples of common storms
----be sure to give the actually location of latitude/ longitude   10 degrees North./ by 125 degrees West
----what kind of animals/ plants are common in this area ( you might want to add a few more pictures here)
----anything else you might want to do or add to your Kuno power-point is great to do

***I will set up my own project and show at least one example for each class to help you "as you go"

**goal = to be done by Friday of this Week, ask for help
Climate/ Biome introduction assignment ( Jan. 9th)
Picture
**directions-Part One : due on Tues. Jan 14th

1.  Use the map shown above and use the four color/ locations as keys to how USA is divided into 4 climates ( cold, hot-humid, temperate,hot-arid)

2. Find 1-2 pictures for each of the four areas and place into your Kings soft Kuno location.  Set this up as a small "power-point" summary

3. Be sure to label under each image information of the pic and where it is from, such as the state or body of water.  **look on mryrtuesclassroom.com---for examples of this arrangement.

Picture
Part two---biomes of the World:
***directions for part two assignment--

1. Use the map above, along with textbook of page 121

2.  Follow with similar steps of part one and find 1-2 pictures from the  (Six -biomes of our World )
3. Copy the picture and label each, as you place them with the earlier (part one) set of images in your small "point-point" using your Kings-soft applications.

due on Tuesday, Jan. 14th--none late !!!

Grading "rubrics" for the biome assignment Part 1-2

Part One (USA)------needed 8 pics/ labeled of 4 areas = 32= A

1.  number of pics and labeled and on time = 3 points/ pic

2.  number of pics = _____/labeled/ = total points = _____

PART TWO----THE WORLD'S BIOMES ( 6 AREAS)--
***needed 12 pictures and labeled for 6 areas = 36 points = A
