May 19th---Review of studies of Pre-historic life ( test on Friday)

1. All creatures (even dinosaurs) have basic abilities and functions:

A.  Some could fly, swim, fun fast, live in herds, flesh eaters, plant eaters,
B.  Some as large as whales, small as mice, were fish, amphibians, birds, reptiles, mammals, and lived as animals like those they we have today

2. Common names of pre-historic life were:  the triceratops, stegosaurus, brontosaurus, pterodactyls and T-rex.

3. THE BIG DEBATE = that dinosaurs might not just be reptiles.   IN THE 1970 S a new idea was that dinosaurs might be warm - blooded and some were maybe mammals or even birds.

a.  Most dinosaurs seemed to have laid eggs---just like reptiles

b.  BUT----- fossils show that unlike reptiles, they would of stood upright and walked, and some fossils show they had feathers !

c. Some like the brontosaurus ( like a giraffe)--had really long necks and to be long necked---an animal needed to be able to send blood up to the brain and this takes a long canal or vessel with a warm blooded heart.

4.  Even today----SOME PEOPLE STILL SAY  "MOST DINOS = REPTILES

5.  1980 s = two important paleontologists = Jack Horner and Dr. Robert Bakker (from Jurasic Park movie )----proved that dino s run really fast and had hearts like mammals, not reptiles. ***They both also showed that a lot of dinosaurs had bones similar to BIRDS.

Special-- KINDS OF DINO S ( THEIR CLASSES )

1.  THE DUCKBILLED :
